Stage Accompany - That's How Music Should Sound!

Here I will tell you about my experience of listening Stage Accompany acoustic system. The history, components and its revolutionary technology you can see on website www.stageaccompany.com. I must admit, this company would not have addressed any attention that I have not noticed study monitors in the list of products. The closer look with the technical documentation I noticed a few interesting moments and know-how, which, it's my opinion, supposed in a positive way affect on sound reproduction quality. These are powerfull ribbon compact driver (ribbon, not AMT), which works from 1000 Hz and amplifiers with the Dynamic Damping Control. Very rarely seen companies that manufacture the entire range of products: drivers, boxes, cables, amplifiers, racks, digital processors. Earlier in the box Stage Accompany were used JBL drivers, but from the eighties, the manufacturer has organized his own production of drivers and revolutionary ribbon driver, Ribbon Compact Driver (joint project with Philips), guaranteed to be able to achieve the highest possible sound quality . The reason for such a step is reasonable: the production of limited quantities of speakers intended only for its own purposes provided a "grinding" the quality and production technology. Now it became clear why from the beginning of eighties did not appear the new models of speakers. By the same principle work, for example, and companies such as: Dynaudio, ATC, TAD. Materials and manufacturing technology for such manufacturers are not specifically changed from the moment of creation, to say nothing of the model itself. You will agree that it is very hard to improve almost perfect product. Advertisement Stage Accompany it almost does not exist. So that the few people to pay attention to the first-class technique, even in mid-professionals, to say nothing of simple audiophiles. But, like many contemporary manufacturers of studio equipment, the company is also trying to enter the Hi-Fi market with M57 wood-finished models. Such acoustics can be seen around the world at large fairs, audio equipment.

What can I say about the system? I visited official page of the Russian manufacturer. I thought that they have special demo room, show room or even a separate room, but I never expected that it will be in the most ordinary office with tables, chairs, flimsy ceiling. But in the end it does not spoiled the experience, because the representatives of the Ultimate Studio class you can literally hear in a mile. I listened P26 loudspeakers (2x12 ", hard mid-woofer suspension, horn designed ribbon driver) with subwoofer P29 (2x15", 40 Hz -3 dB). Just to warn you, if you listen to such a system in the large exhibition hall the loudness is so big that you can hardly hear anything but the bass quality, in which everyone has to pay attention, at least the one who has some understanding in audio equipment. At normal amplitude system sounds just great. The first thing I noticed was the fantastic clean, tight and elastic bass. Such a bass you cannot hear anywhere. It is not just an ideal flat amplitude-frequency response, which can be heard from the most of studio subwoofer - it is something more and it is impossible to describe. You have to hear that at least once. I'm also surprised, as there was no “ear fatigue" effect and other unwanted and unpleasant feelings at a high volume, when they shooked and creaked the floor, walls, furniture, ceiling elements. Loudspeakers simply do not put "pressure" on the ears and does not tire us during a long audition. This is because DDC system don't alow self-oscillating mode of almost entire frequency range. Generally speaking, the sound system is characterized by high detail and neutrality, but the stronger side of SA is a perfectly clear and realistic sound. Such a monitor sound character I have not seen anywhere else!

High damping factor didn’t have positive affect only to LF, but also to a MF. I can especially compare the ribbon and Hail driver, who was part of the monitor ADAM S4. Later I learned that wrinkled AMT drivers still are not as good as the regular ribbon driver. They also have air expulsion effect from the chamber and the compression drivers, and also the frontal position of the magnet as a protective grille. The ribbon driver is moving as one entity, which in the end had positive affect in the absence of familiar sound sharpness of ADAM monitors at mid frequencies. On closer look, through a central longitudinal aperture diaphragm driver can be seen small particles of insulation material similar to small hairs or dust.

Let me say once again, the sound of Stage Accompany acoustics is quite specific. Particularly different sound have low and middle frequencies, so it's possible some change of opinion related to some sound materials, previously thought that they were standard, not to mention the studio-monitor sound at all. It's unusual, almost unnoticeable bass, and dry, at first look not so detailed and rigid sound at high frequencies compared with AMT ADAM drivers or JBL Everest DD66000 compression drivers. But when you listen carefully diminishing the visibility of such defects is associated with significantly greater resolution and less distortion of sibilants and other similar sounds, which were previously almost always wrongly considered as a detailed sound. Now, after subjective listening of the JBL Everest DD66000 (analog Kinooshita), I must say that the sound of Stage Accompany I liked more.

In the catalogue of the manufacturer SA there are three models of studio monitors, but there is no sense in their purchase though they do not cost much more than other models They differ only in double-walled boxes and home design, In all models, including studio, the same drivers were used. You should also know, that cannot be said exactly where are the advantages and possible disadvantages of this system. This situation is the result of inability to listen to each component separately outside the system, amplifiers, crossovers, speakers. You purchase the whole set. For example, suppose that the ribbon driver is better than the compression TAD driver, but I do not think that the Stage Accompany woofer is better than Pioneer paper woofers with special impregnation not to mention the unique carbon mid-woofer. The same is for the amplifier: almost nothing can be said about them in DDC offline mode. On the other hand, the application of DDC system has a incredible effect on the sound. But can it have particular significance, if everything works perfectly?
